As tempting as it may be to explore Germany’s wonders on a budget with the 49-euro Deutschlandticket, sometimes unforeseen circumstances or a change of heart can lead to the need for a cancellation or refund.
This blog post will guide you through the process of purchasing, canceling, and refunding your 49-euro Deutschlandticket subscription, ensuring you don’t miss a beat while keeping your wallet intact
Purchasing the 49-Euro Deutschlandticket Subscription
A 49-euro Deutschland ticket subscription provides unlimited access to regional and local public transport throughout Germany for one month.
You can buy your ticket via the Deutsche Bahn website, the DB Navigator app, any German local public transport association’s online platform (e.g. BVG), or in person at a Deutsche Bahn or local transport association ticket office.
Unlike the now-defunct 9-euro ticket, the 49-euro Deutschland ticket requires a subscription, making organization a must. For instance, to buy a ticket valid for June, you’ll need to purchase the subscription by May 10.
Anyone with a European IBAN can buy a Deutschland ticket subscription, including tourists. After your initial payment, Deutsche Bahn will automatically debit your bank account monthly for the subscription.
How to cancel 49 euro ticket subscription?
If you change your mind or no longer need your 49-euro Deutschlandticket, follow these steps to cancel or refund your subscription:
- Go to the platform where you bought your ticket (i.e., the Deutsche Bahn website, DB Navigator app, or local public transport association’s online platform).
- If you bought your ticket before the 10th day of the current calendar month and it hasn’t started yet, you can cancel and get a full refund.
- If you have an ongoing subscription, cancel it by the 10th day of the current month to avoid being charged for the next month. For example, to cancel a June subscription, you must cancel by May 10.

I bought my 49 Euro ticket on 3 May then when i checked 3 days after that it was canceled automatically. What might be the cause
Hi Samantha
That’s strange! It could be that the payment information that you provided while purchasing the subscription got denied. I am just assuming as there could be multiple reasons behind the cancellation of the ticket.
My suggestion would be to visit the nearest public transport ticket counter and talk to the help desk. They should be able to help you out.
Thanks!
Hi I bought the ticket today May 11th and is valid for whole May, when should I cancel for June?
As per the website – https://deutschlandticket.de/ the SEPA direct debit deducts the money from your bank account on the 5th of the month. Also, your payment for the month of May is already debited (as far as I understand). So, it would be a good idea to cancel the ticket before the start of the month i.e before June 1st to avoid the payment for the month of June (Although this is not clearly stated anywhere on the website). If you are in doubt, it is better to contact the local ticket vendor in your city.
Hi ,
I need the ticket only for the month of May. If I book it today, will I be able to cancel for the month of June?
Hi Hariharan
As per the website, you can now book for the current month and get the ticket for May electronically but there is no clarity around the topic of cancellation for the next month. If I understand it correctly, the deduction for the next month happens on the 5th of the month but to cancel the ticket you should do it before the 10th of the previous month. This is not possible for the month of June and hence its better to check with your local ticket agency. You should still be able to cancel your ticket for the month of July if you do it before the 10th of June (as per the official website).
Still didn’t get the point – where is the option on DB application – to cancel my subscription for June – if I don’t need 49€ ticket anymore
Hi Tatiana
Please check the swipe menu on your DB app. I do see an option called “Cancel contract” towards the bottom of the menu.
Hello!
I canceled my ticket at the beginning of the month because I wanted to use it for May only. Not only was my bank account not debited in May, but I canceled it 4 times through the DB application on my cell phone and I never received a confirmation email.
Now I have in my phone the ticket for June also.
I sent emails because I can’t enter Abo’s portal either and no one responds to me.
Do you know if I can do something else?
Hi Mariela
I can understand the frustration. My suggestion would be to visit the nearest DB ticket office and seek help. They should be able to guide you or help you with the cancellation request.
Theres no Provision for cancellation on the DB application. But they’ve already issued June tickets. I have only learned about cancellation be 10th now but it’s 21st already🤷♀️
Hi Lynate
Unfortunately, there is no complete clarity or transparency on how and when to cancel a 49 euro ticket subscription before the subscription is charged for the next month. To avoid further deductions, please cancel it before the 10th of the month or visit the nearest DB ticket office.
I tried multiple time to cancel ticket by sending email. But just getting reply we will come to you.
Online cancellation option in disabled.
Not sure what to do
Hi Uttam
Unfortunately, there is no complete clarity or transparency on how and when to cancel a 49 euro ticket subscription. To avoid further deductions, please cancel it before the 10th of the month or visit the nearest DB ticket office.
Thanks a lot for the very useful article!
Only one question: i have bought the detuschland ticket on 18 May, and yesterday i have requested the cancellation because i came back at home in Italy.
When the subscription will be canceled? And,above all, if they will only withdraw one month’s fee from my current account (therefore 49 euros) or two months (therefore 98 euros).
Hi Valerio
Since you cancelled the ticket after 10th of May but before 10th of June, there should be a deduction for the months of May and June and not for July.
So, according to the data available online, there should be a deduction of 2 x 49 = 98 Euros.
Please make sure that your ticket cancellation request for the month of July is accepted to avid further deductions.
Unfortunately I take 49€ ticket for 3 time for 1 month how i cancelled?
Hi Shalu
Please reach out to the nearest DB ticket office and get the subscriptions cancelled in person.
Hi,
I actually bought the 49€ ticket for the month of may and today which is the 25/05 my bank account was debited 49€ again for the next month ,i cancelled the ticket today but is there any possibility to get a full refund for it before the next month starts
Hi Imen
Ideally, the deduction that you see (49 Euros) should be for the month of may if you bought it in May. The deduction for June should ideally happen in June.
Also, if the deduction already happened, then it is probably not possible to get back the money as the cancellation should be done before the 10th of the previous month i.e before 10th of May for June.
Hi,
Unable to cancel Deutschland ticket through DB app “cancel contract ” option.
I wanted to use the ticket only for the month of May. Therefore gave the cancellation request multiple time before 10th of May. Did not receive any response. Reached out to DB center too. They couldn’t help me. They ask to wait for the response. Now the ticket for the month of June is visible in the app. Please let me know who could help me out here.
Hi Vandana
This is strange that your ticket is not cancelled for the month of June even though you requested the cancellation before the 10th of May. I do not have any suggestion as you already reached out to the DB ticket centre.
Maybe the only option now is to wait for the response and if you do not get a response before the 10th of June, try again to reach out to the DB centre and also write an email to their official ticketing email id requesting the cancellation and informing them about the issue you are facing.
Hello,
I also bought Deutschland ticket 3 time and every time it is getting cancelled, although the amount has been deducted from my bank account. Now DB helpdesk is not helping saying you bought it online via DB navigator application so only ABO can help you. I sent an email and also tried calling you but no response.
Hi Shanki
I understand the frustration you are going through. Unfortunately, the only way forward is to check back with the online service provider from where you booked the ticket. In your case, it is ABO. Please try to contact them again via email and try to write the email in German (Use Google Translate if you do not speak German).
Hello,
I wanted to ask a question regarding 49 euro Ticket. I wanted to get it for June but I was on vacation outside of Germany. So what you’re saying is that if I buy that at the begging of June, it’ll only be valid for July? I wanted to buy it per app(VRR BUS&Bahn) and then if I didn’t want it for July, would I be able to cancel it at the end of June without paying additionally? I’d be pleased if you could help.
Thank you in advance.
Hi Luka
As per the website https://deutschlandticket.de/ you can buy the ticket for the current month before the 25th of the month. So, you can book the ticket for the month of June now. if you do not want it for July, you will have to ideally raise the cancellation request before the 10th of the previous month i.e before 10th of June. Quoting the text from the official website below:
“You can cancel your Germany ticket monthly. The cancellation must be made by the 10th calendar day of the previous month in order to take effect for the following month.
In the login area you can cancel your active contract at the earliest possible date. To do this, log in with your email and password and go to My subscriptions.”
Hello, I have two tickets for the month of June by mistake. I don’t know how I got two of them. I only wanted to extend my subscription for June. I started using it in May. Now I have two tickets on for June on my RMVgo portal. How is it possible? And How cancel either of the tickets?
Hi Haila
Once you buy a ticket for the current month, you don’t have to buy another ticket for the next month or extend it. The renewal for the next month happens automatically. If you bought two tickets by mistake, its better to cancel one of them either via app (If possible) or visit the nearest DB ticket centre and get one of those tickets cancelled.
hi,
I’ve just been trying to book this today 1st june for june via DB website. I’m travelling between 16 and 24th june. It wont let me book, is it because I should have booked before 20th may ? Is there any option to book once in germany for that june ?
Hi Karen
As per this website (https://deutschlandticket.de/), you should be able to book for the current month before the 25th of that month. Please try again
by mistake i booked 2 duetschland tickets with same and account, how i can cancel one of them?
Hi Wali
If you bought two tickets by mistake, its better to cancel one of them either via app (If possible) or visit the nearest DB ticket centre and get one of those tickets cancelled.
Hi ,
I accidentally bought the ticket twice for the month of June. I already cancelled one of them through the app. How will I get the refund. Will it be done automatically and get the refund?
Or do I still need to visit the DB centre?
Hi Mahesh
As per the website, you can get a refund only if you cancel before the 10th of the previous month. If you forget to cancel your subscription by the 10th day of the current month, Deutsche Bahn will automatically debit your bank account for the next month’s subscription. Unfortunately, you won’t be able to receive a refund or cancel your subscription for that particular month.
Its better to reach out to the nearest DB ticket office for additional information.
Hi Anoop, I placed and order for another person for the current month to an email he didn’t have access to. It is still his email but he don’t remember the password. Since i paid with my email I have the order numbers and other details but not the subscription number. What can i do to retrieve the subscription number or to send it the the right email? Please help
Hi Alkid
Please try to reset the password of the email and try to gain access. That would be the easiest way to get the subscription email.
If that’s not possible, you may try to reach out to the nearest DB ticket office and discuss the issue with the customer care representatives there. They should be able to suggest you some solutions.
Good luck!
Hi.. maybe you have an idea about my problem.. i bought the 49 euro ticket and they deducted my account dor the whole year which is 588 euro. But I already cancelled my subscription for the month of June onwards last May 1.. now my question is, how long will it take before they refund my money on my account? They deducted my account last june 30..
Hi Ron
Ideally, you should get the refund soon. Keep an eye on your bank statement and if you do not get the refund even after the 10th of June, its better to reach out to the customer care of DB either via email, phone or a in-person visit and get the issue resolved.
I accidentally took 2 tickets(I realised it today) ,I don’t know how ,may be the DB app bug. Both tickets r in different mails (say A &B).
In A mail,I have ticket and they show my subsciption is active in DB login but
In B mail,I have ticket and they do not show any subscriptions in DB login.
So a total of 98 euros is been deducted in May and in June,(total 196euros) which is horrible!!!!!!
So I cancelled the B mail ticket via DB app, will i get refund for June since I cancelled it before 10th?
Hi Vishnu
That’s unfortunate that you had to pay twice the fees for two months.
Since you cancelled the second ticket in June (before 10th), the subscription for July will be cancelled. The payment for June will not be refunded as June already started. This is what the official website says.
Hello 🙂
I have bought my 49€ ticket today (06 June) and would like to use it for June.
But i am not in Germany yet. I will arrive in Germany on Saturday 10 June.
I have checked my bank after i ordered the ticket (like 30 minutes after), and NO money gone yet.
I do not need the ticket for July.
So if i cancel my ticket ON 10 june, will i have the ticket for June ??
Hi Seyed
As per the website, you can not cancel the ticket for the same month. the cancellation done before the 10th of the month will be effective next month. I.e if you cancel the subscription on 9th June, it should cancel the July and onwards subscription.
This is really weird. How come the app allows to buy the ticket for the same month for the same customer. I went to DB office. But they look clue less as always
Hi Mahesh
I agree that there are bugs in the app and probably in the whole subscription process and the cancellation. Also, the fact that there is less clarity around subscription, payment and cancellation leads to further frustration.
I hope you have already cancelled the duplicate subscription and won’t get charged twice for the next month.
Hi, I want to cancel my 49euro ticket for July. I know that the cancellation is to be done before June 10. So what should be the termination date to be given while cancelling? Is it June 9 ( if so, will I get subscription till end of June) or June 30 (if so, will they continue the subscription for july also)?
Hi Akshay
The date should be 30.06.2023 as per the details available online. Below are the steps:
1. Login to the bahn.de website here – https://www.bahn.de/
2. Once you are logged in, scroll to the bottom of the page and find the section – “Is there anything else we can do for you”?
3. Click on “My subscription services”

5. Click on the “View subscription” link

7. Click on it and choose the date as 30.06.2023 if you want to cancel your July subscription.

this article is useless. Contains no specific information on how to go to the DB app or webpage and what steps to take to cancel
Hi Chico
Thanks for your feedback. I added a section that details out the steps you can follow on the DB website to cancel your subscription.
I hope this helps.
Hello again Anoop 🙂
Thank you very much for your time and help.
On my DB Navigator App, I have the ticket and it is valid until end of June. However, the money has NOT gone from my account up to now!!
But since i do not need the ticket for July, i am going to cancel the subscription tomorrow (08 June), to avoide paying for July.
So, to cancel the subscription in the App, all i need to do is to go to the ”Cancel Contract”.
Is that all i need to do??
Hi Seyed

Hello! I need to check if my ticket removed or not? Unfortunately, I can’t go to my platform on bahn.de, where I have bought it. I have all the data of the ticket in my e-mail.
Hi Anna
if you are unable to login to your account, try the following steps:
– In your email that you received for the ticket subscription, there should be a section called Tipps und Tricks
– Click on the first option – Verwalten Sie…
– A new web page open up. Click on Anmelden.
– Click on Deutsche Bahn or the organization that you used for your ticket subscription
– Enter the details from your email. I.e Abbonummer, Date of birth and Postal code
After this, you should be able to see your subscription details and its status.
